Team Coaching Session at Oaga Art Resort Maldives
On September 23, 2024, I had the opportunity to conduct a dynamic team coaching session with senior leaders at Oaga Art Resort in the Maldives. The session was designed to elevate leadership through a focus on self-development and team growth, ensuring that participants could align around a shared vision while fostering open communication and collaboration.
We started by conducting a check-in, asking each leader to rate themselves on a scale from 1 to 10, covering various aspects of their personal and professional development, such as delegation skills, time management, coaching abilities, and more. This self-assessment gave everyone a moment to reflect on their current leadership state, allowing for open dialogue about strengths, areas for improvement, and the challenges they face individually.
Objectives of the Session
The session was designed with clear goals:
Elevating Leadership through both self-development and team growth.
Helping each participant identify their current personal development state and their future desired state, highlighting the gap between the two.
Setting SMART goals to bridge that gap.
Encouraging vulnerability by initiating an open conversation about creating a coaching culture within their leadership team.
Key Components
Assessment and Self-awareness
Each team member rated their competencies in areas such as public speaking, self-awareness, delegation, time management, and financial understanding. This assessment, documented in a spreadsheet, became the foundation for identifying the gaps between their current state and their desired state.
Gap Analysis
Through an open discussion, the team identified these gaps, allowing for a transparent conversation about the areas that required attention. This process encouraged vulnerability, as each leader was open about their areas for growth, enabling the team to support each other in these aspects.
Action Plan
To bridge these gaps, we developed strategies and actionable steps, ensuring that these actions were clearly documented for future tracking and follow-up. The result of the session was not only a better understanding of each other’s strengths and challenges but also a solid framework for supporting one another in closing these development gaps.
By the end of the session, participants walked away with a deeper connection to their peers, a clear sense of direction, and a commitment to building a coaching culture that fosters trust, accountability, and growth. The leaders now have a shared understanding of the challenges ahead and how they can help each other succeed in reaching their desired leadership states.
